Steward

Stuck agent work, safe automatic fixes and a daily digest.

Steward watches the work your agents do, fixes the few things that are safe to fix without you and tells you in one line when it needs a person. It is not a chat assistant and not a second orchestrator.

What it watches

Board cards (every round), runner runs such as skills, design and planner, and fleet slots. Fleet slots are observed only: Steward opens an incident and tells you, but never sends a slot a command, because the orchestrator owns its slots.

An incident is one stuck situation: an API error, an open dialog, a permission prompt, the quota banner, silence (no activity for ten minutes by default and no live background task), an ended session, a commit with a Claude attribution trailer, or something unknown. A round waiting on a long background task is never silent.

What it does by itself

  • Nudge after an API or network error: one fixed line typed into the session, at most twice per round.
  • Dismiss a dialog that needs no decision, from a short fixed list. An unknown dialog is never answered.
  • Resume a dead card session in the same worktree, at most twice per round. A round you stopped is never resumed.
  • Hold a push whose commits carry a Claude attribution trailer, until the worker rewrites them.

Each action has a limit and its own switch. Steward never answers a permission prompt, merges or changes code.

What it escalates

Anything it cannot fix safely or that passes a limit becomes one notification, in the app and on Telegram. When the work recovers, the incident closes with a Resolved entry in Activity and no notification.

Where you see it

  • Board: a chip such as Stuck: API error · nudged 1/2, and needs you once escalated. The card sheet has a Steward section.
  • Activity: filter by type Steward.
  • Overview and Telegram: the digest.

The digest

Daily at the project's digest time and when you switch away mode off. It lists what is done, what is stuck and why, what waits on you, and the spend. A small local model writes the summary line, and without a runner you get the plain template.

Settings

Project → Settings → Steward, saved by a project admin: the master switch (on by default), the silence threshold, the digest time and one switch per automatic action. An action that is off is escalated instead.
